Welcome to Onkaparinga City Choral Society

About Us

In 1968, when the southern community was beginning to expand, a group of singers got together and formed a choir, initially known as the Southern Singers.

In 1976 when Noarlunga was granted its City status, the choir became known as The Noarlunga City Choir and with various Music Directors as their choir leaders.

In 2003, a name change was in order, and this group became the Onkaparinga City Choral Society Inc. with the choral group known as The Southern Singers.  From there, they began to explore other activities in which choir members could participate.  This resulted in the establishment of the OCCS Theatre Group, which evolved to become OCCS Good Companions.  This group provides entertainment mainly on weekdays at Nursing Homes, Retirement Villages, Community Centres, RSL venues, and the like.

Over the years, the choir has explored many types of music and different styles of singing.  They have performed in other languages and sung at various official celebrations, concerts and shows.  They have performed in the Adelaide Sings concert over several years.  This is an annual event organized by the Australian National Choral Association, S.A. branch, to showcase the skills of Adelaide Choirs.

The choir holds 2 concerts each year, and have performed as guests of the Onkaparinga City Concert Band and the City of Onkaparinga Pipe Band. They also lead the Carol singing at a local Community Christmas Carols event each year.
